Our History

In 2001, a city-wide lacrosse team was organized and operated as Bloomington Lacrosse.

In 2004, the Bloomington Outlaws high school CLUB team was created.  This team consisted of Bloomington and surrounding area students.

The Bloomington Outlaws middle school team was formed Spring 2008.  Scott Blais was the first coach.  "Jay" Jessmer, Scott's long time friend, came on as an assistant head coach over defense.  "Baby Michael" Jessmer, Jay's son, played on that team.

For 2013-14, Indiana High School Lacrosse Association split the Outlaw team to form separate high school teams, thus South's first team was formed.

In Spring 2014, Scott Blais became South's first head coach...and North's head coach, sometimes coaching two teams on the same day!  Coach Blais coached through the 2016 season.

In Summer 2016, Sean Millikan, a doctoral student at Indiana University, began meeting the team during their own individual workouts.  Soon, he became interested in coaching the team and coached for 2017 and 2018, before moving away.

In 2019, Sam Hood became our third coach.  He would travel from Indianapolis and was assisted by Michael Jessmer and Steve Foster.

In 2020, Michael Jessmer became the 4th head coach and saw the team through COVID.

In 2022, South Lax appeared in the IHSLA Division 1A playoffs for the first time.
